Assessment

eMed Logic© introduces an innovative, valid, and reliable new assessment (probabilistic assessment of violence - linked observations version - PAVLOV©) for suicide and predatory violence risk for youth and adults. It represents the dynamic works from eMed International©, now renamed eMed Logic©. This guided assessment is suitable for schools, clinics, emergency departments, criminal justice centers, and residential care. It is a behavioral health compliment to standardized risk analysis, not substitute for, clinical judgment.

It is a CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) value proposition for diagnosis and hospital cost productivities. Assessments are billable utilizing CPT codes 96130-31 (psychological testing - psychological disorder) and 9132-33 (neuropsychological testing - medical disorder with psychological bearing) with applicable ICD-10 R 45-.851 F & G codes.

.

In addition to the copyrighted and available PROMPT©, ACUTE©, ACTA©, and VISTA© individual pencil-and-paper assessments, PAVLOV© is a computerized, interactive test that represents a scientific breakthrough in equitable suicide and violence risk screening. It is a non-stigmatizing measurement across diverse groups and underrepresented populations. It is cloud-based and confidential.

The five tiered, 75-question integrated item bank is the first of its kind to cover suicidal and homicidal risk with or without ideation, expanded suicide and violence definitions, neurologic biomarkers, anaphylactic suicide, and a combination of traditional and unconventional risk factors.

In an average of 1 to 2 minutes, persons can be screened and their suicide and/or violence risk quantified in terms of the probability of a near-term violent act in minutes to a few hours.

The balanced and robust psychometric properties of the PAVLOV© assessment represent groundbreaking utilization of likelihood ratio (LR) probabilities for decision rules of effectiveness in successive stages and final score of the assessment.

The process can be integrated with an electronic health record system. PAVLOV© is available in English, Spanish, and other languages.

Training

Every clinician must be able to accurately identify, with confidence, risk factors and threat levels for suicide and violence, regardless of ideation.

Evidence about the value of currently available suicide and violence prevention training programs and competent risk assessments is not encouraging. Attempts to develop ideation-centered models have in part been unsuccessful from the fact that ideation is common, the value of depression hard to determine, and standard sensitivity and specificity psychometrics increasingly criticized. Furthermore, no previous risk screeners have evaluated the impact of nonideation states on attempt rates.

eMed Logic© offers peer-reviewed results of more than 40 years’ of Dr. Copelan's subject matter expertise (SME) in translating research into clinical practice in this state-of-the-art, state-of-the-science training program.

The eMed Logic© skills for clinicians is an advanced, interactive, one day training. The in-person program includes:

  • competency-based curriculum, derived from established peer-reviewed research and published literature;

  • topics cover integrated, suicide definition; suicide-homicide final common pathway; stratifying risk using likelihood ratios; nonideation states; understanding competency issues related to suicide; anaphylactic suicide;

  • web-based workshop session with PAVLOV© skill rehearsal;

  • mini-neurologic examination application exercises;

  • practice with group and dyadic participation;

  • updated participant manuals with resource materials;

How was the name PAVLOV© applied to the test?

Ivan Pavlov was a Russian physiologist who was interested in the early personality biomarkers first described by Hippocrates and Galen. He identified the body's natural response of shutting down when exposed to overwhelming stress. The instinct of the author was to use his name in the construction of two identical acronyms. One involved the dynamism of the test itself, i.e., probabilistic assessment of violence - linked observations version. The second comprised the first letter of each of eMed Logic's© precursor assessments, i.e., PROMPT©, ACUTE©, VISTA©, etc.
